We talk about this extensively in our forthcoming book, Playing Together, but since it’s not out yet, let me speak to this here.
“Are you two swingers?” My gorgeous friend asked me from across the bar.
“I don’t know? Maybe?” I responded, not knowing exactly what she was asking.
That was one year before the events that followed.
We entered the Lifestyle on accident. I had no concept of swinging. I had only heard whispers that certain people’s parents were swingers, but I had no curiosity and honestly thought it was a hobby for fat people. I don’t know why, by the way, this is a common concept of swinging. I assume it’s intentional, negative propaganda because the other alternativet—that is, the truth—is utterly too threatening to the status quo. If people knew swingers were normal, often-more-attractive-than-the-average couple, who are stronger, more in-love, more playful, and more fun to be around, well, certain societal norms would collapse.
Anyway, we were supposed to go to a Sexy Murder Mystery themed New Years Eve party that was cancelled due to a COVID scare. But, being the extremely extra person that I am (already well suited for the Lifestyle), I had already booked hair and make-up for the party and it was non-refundable. So I told my then-fiance to find us a sexy party to go to: “Any party,” I urged. A few hours later he showed me a poster of three women, asses to the camera, looking over their shoulders with a banner, “Sexy New Year’s Eve.” I immediately responded, “I’m in.”
We didn’t know it was a swingers club because we didn’t know what swinger clubs were. When we bought our ticket, we had to agree to witnessing nudity and sex acts, and so I started to call it a “sex club.” I thought it would be like dungeons you see on TV: dark, tantalizing, lounge-like energy with couples playing on iron crosses or with each other off in secluded rooms. Wrong.
We got to the club and learned there was a theme, everyone else was dressed in Arabian Nights. We were dressed in the outfits we wore to dinner. But the place struck me as romantic, there was lots of PDA and kissing and the couples looked in love. We sat a table nervously and shared a shot before various couples came to greet us and welcome us to the club. They explained, “dancing is fun, but fucking is better.” Sex was allowed anywhere but most would play in either the public or private playrooms. We danced, went to the public playroom and watched couples fucking, and then my brain broke and I came back for another shot.
At midnight, the woman from this couple pecked both me and Mr. Honey on the mouth, and I loved it. I found it sweet, slightly erotic, and totally non-threatening.
After midnight, a different couple approached us, and we learned they had been together and swinging for more than 20 years. She barely looked 20 years old to me. She was wearing just a thong and pasties, and I had a hard time not staring at her breasts. She invited me to dance, and then invited me to touch her all over. My pussy was pulsing so hard I was worried she could hear it, and then she asked if she could kiss me.
We were totally unprepared for this moment because we had zero conversations about the possibility of playing with another couple, not knowing the opportunity would present itself. We had fantasized about threesomes, and I had shared past experiences kissing women that I wished had gone further, but we never talked about pursuing any of those fantasies. I told her I needed to ask permission, which Mr. Honey enthusiastically gave.
After we kissed on the dance floor, we moved to the sofa next to the dance floor, where we caressed and made out some more. I couldn’t help but to touch myself. I heard her husband say, “Babe, she’s touching herself,” and I wanted to collapse in shame. But instead she looked at me and smiled hungrily and said, “Can I taste you?”
I slid off my pants and panties and watched her beneath my legs. Both men were rubbing my breasts, and I was aware other people were watching. I came on her tongue and she smiled and came up to kiss me.
What happened was an out of body experience. I watched myself stand up, kiss down her stomach, set her on the couch and say, “My turn.” I told Mr. Honey on my way down that he could kiss her, touch her, do whatever he wanted. I felt no jealousy. It didn’t occur to me. As I made my way down, I watched her husband peel off both pasties so he and Mr. Honey could each lick one of her breasts. Mr. Honey licked rhythmically, making eye contact with me, showing me what to do. And I felt her writhe and press into me until I noticed her taste change. She looked down at me, “Do you taste it?”
And that’s how we realized, upon leaving, that we were definitely swingers.
Still, it took us nine months to process the experience and return. We talked about it nearly every day for the first three months. We reflected on how normal it was, how we experienced no jealousy or insecurity, and how freeing and fun it was. We felt on the precipice of a new life, one that we knew, would be hard to maintain with our legal careers, and decided we liked this more than the law anyway. We’d give up friendships, prestige, even our careers, to get to keep doing this.
But in month four we had a relationship hiccup. Or… earthquake. It came out that Mr. Honey had lied about a lot of his sexual history (which could not be extricated, to me, from lying about his life in general before me), and I was heartbroken. We nearly separated, and during the time of repair, we couldn’t entertain talking about swinging. We entered couples counseling, which saved our relationship and built the foundations for the strong, healthy couple we are today.
We returned to swinging the following fall, nine months after our initial christening. But we were different now. I was much more touchy, traumatized, and sensitive than I had been just earlier that year. And, as we’d quickly learn, we had benefited from some beginners luck the first time. Still, our second visit to the club was fun. We played with each other in a public playroom where another couple joined us on the bed. Mr. Honey and I played with the woman while she and her husband took turns eating me out. But after that things got a little rocky.
We were so eager for new experiences that we started seeking them out. We went on a date with another couple and, even though it was weird, we agreed to a play date the following week. That experience was pretty bad, it was more of a swap-vibe and I felt jealous and left out. We agreed to play with the second couple from the club again, but that too became more of a swap and again I didn’t enjoy the experience. We, like so many newbie couples in the Lifestyle, hadn’t really considered what had made our first experience so good, and weren’t being thoughtful about replicating those circumstances to make for more positive experiences. So the experiences weren’t positive, but we learned a lot and fast, and our couples counselor helped us grow stronger from our mistakes.
I’d be remiss to not mention the highlight of our first experiences, a Desire Cruise, which we booked for our honeymoon. That week felt more like our first experience swinging–romantic, full of friends and friendly faces, erotic, and without jealousy or negative experiences. We felt so connected all week and it renewed our faith in our ability to handle these spaces.
This was due partially to the environment cultivated by Desire, but also because it allowed us to get in a lot of practice in quick succession. In the two years following our first night at the club, we had four additional sexual experiences with other couples. In one week on Desire Cruise, we had three more. Desire took us from being scared, nervous newbies to confident ones. Every day we spoke to couples who were happy to talk to us about their experiences in the Lifestyle and what they’ve learned, and they showered us with loving advice and encouragement. We got to practice conversations about what couples are into, what their favorite parts of the Lifestyle and play were, and pick up little things like how to flirt, engage in consensual, light touch, and swinger game.
That week, every play experience we had was perfect, and we took the time to analyze and understand why. And more than anything, we felt ourselves on that boat. I’ll share a video below of our last night. I’m so grateful to Desire and the people on that boat for shepherding us into the couple we are now.
And that’s how we got started + our first few experiences…whew.
I leave you with a video from our last night on the boat.
Love,
Honey
Inmediatamente respondí: «Me apunto».
Me equivoqué.
No pude evitar tocarme.
No sentí celos. Ella me miró: «¿Lo notas?».
Honey
